MENTAL PERFORMANCE COACHING

Mental Performance Training

Why Work with a Mental Performance Coach?

As athletes, I am sure you place great emphasis on your physical training (technique, skills), which is important for performance. However, I've come to find that while athletes put a lot of time and effort into their physical training, often less time and effort is put into their mental training, which is equally important!

As you continue to develop and compete in your sport, your mental game will become more and more critical. Whether it’s learning how to maintain or regain your confidence after tough losses or mistakes, understanding the value of being present in the here and now, or even learning how to manage your nerves before and/or during competition – all these areas and more contribute to your overall performance.

Meeting with a mental performance coach will help you train your mental game just as consistently as you train your physical game. This will help to support your performance goals and holistic development as an athlete.

What Can I Expect?

  • A mental performance needs assessment, including completion of a pre-assessment survey, discussion about your sport experience, performance goals, and identification of your strengths and improvement areas.
  • Individually tailored mental performance plan for short and long-term performance goals.

Who I Work With

  • Athletes, from youth to college level.

How Are Sessions Delivered?

  • All sessions are conducted virtually on Zoom (zoom.us)

Types of Sessions Offered

  • 1:1 virtual individual sessions
  • Virtual Workshops for groups or teams focused on a pre-determined topic in mental performance (e.g., confidence, present focus).

Are Parents Included in 1:1 Sessions?

  • Parents will have the opportunity to connect with Emily once a month for a parent check in session on zoom or the phone (~20-30 minutes).
  • This session is meant to provide parents with an update on their child’s progress and answer any questions they may have about the process.

My Approach

Evidence-Based: The information and skills I provide to athletes are supported by research and best practices in the field of sports psychology.

Strengths-Based: It’s easy to focus on the negative or the things you want to “fix.” While it is important to address areas of your mental game you want to improve, I like to take a strengths-based approach that focuses first on highlighting the things you do well. This is your foundation – embrace it! Then we’ll aim to build on your foundation by giving you the skills and strategies needed to put you in a position to be successful.

Practical: I like to keep things simple. I will teach you skills and strategies that you feel comfortable and confident in applying to your performance setting.

Individually Tailored: I will work collaboratively with you to define specific performance needs and objectives and individually tailor your sessions to meet those needs.
